Hi Johanna,

Thanks for writing. I've answered the questions below.

> Where were you when the first wave reached the beach?

As seen in the first photo, I was about 20 meters from the water. I thought it was an extra big wave and would stop, but it did not so I started running. I was taking a photo of a boat that was struggling in the currents and when I looked up from behind my camera the water was all the way to the beach. When I had started taking the photo of the struggling boat, the water seemed to be a ways out still.

I ran straight up the street away from the beach, and then into a hotel where I climbed up on a balcony. The water came right to the top of the balcony railing and then went down so I never actually got wet. I may have actually got slightly wet just prior to climbing on the balcony as the water was pouring through the building and pushing all the furniture out. I was able to untangle myself from that and climb up onto the balcony.

> How many waves did you experience?

On big one, and possible one smaller one. the smaller one I saw from the roof of the hotel I had climbed into. It crashed all the way up to the top of the beach, and just barely made more water go over the courtyard (around the pools in the photos).x

> building)

10 meters? It came up to the balcony I was standing on, which was on the second level above the ground.

> How strong were these waves? (Please list items which the wave was carrying)

the waves pushed over buildings, cars were floating by, people were in the water, trees, just about everything was in the water. The hotel i ran into was a large cement building and it survived, although it did shake a bit and some tiles fell off of the roof. I saw one entire building just collapse straight down into the water.

> Did you observe any differences in strength and size of the waves?

The second one was much smaller.

> How long time was it between each wave?

Hard to saw exactly. Maybe 20-30 minutes.

I hope these answers are helpful. Feel free to let me know if you need any further explanation. Good luck with your project.

John
