Thanks for writing about my website. I have attached the original
resolution files of the photos you requested. Just looking through
these pictures brings it all back for me. I have not had as many
photo requests recently and have not looked through them for a little
while now. It is amazing to think about what things were like when I
took that first picture, of the wave approaching, and what things
became just seconds later. In that picture the sand looks so perfect,
you can see the shadow of the palm trees, but then seconds later so
much destruction. Little did I know when I took that shot how massive
this wave was and how widespread the damage. I was standing on the
beach only about 30 feet from the wave when I took that picture. I
was there with about 20 other people who were just staring at the
approaching water with no idea what was about to happen. We started
running when it was obvious the water was not stopping. Of all those
people I think I was the only one who turned off the path and ran up
into the big cement building where i survived the wave. As the photo
of the flooded street shows, which was taken only 50 seconds after I
ran up into the building, everything was devastated where I had just
been running. I doubt many of the people I was running with survived
as they kept going straight ahead and would have been overtaken by
water within seconds.

Anyway.... I was able to figure out the time the wave hit by looking
at the timestamp on the photos. I had set the clock in the camera to
local time about a week before the tsunami hit. The time should have
been accurate within about 30 seconds since I set the clock camera
using the time from my GPS receiver, which is extremely accurate.

Thank you for the link to your website. It has some very interesting data.

John
